Single Jersey

This is the type of jersey everybody recognizes. It’s also the most plain type, which makes it very suitable for basics. We could tire you with a very technical story about left and right knitting directions, but the most important thing is to know that the look and the quality of this type of jersey depends on the thickness of the yarn and the used raw material. Our advice? Opt for a single-jersey from Pima cotton: it’s ultra-strong, soft and its refined character makes it the Rolls Royce among cottons, that will last you for years.

Slubbed Jersey

Factually, this type of jersey categorizes under common single jersey, but it’s made using irregular twisted yarn, leading to an irregular texture in the fabric which adds rustic appeal. The differences in the thickness of the yarn also leads to some level of transparency in the fabric. Not a fan of sheer garments? Then steer clear from slub jersey.

French Terry Jersey

A floral print evokes romance - and this counts for all forms: from enlarged designs to aquarelle and an 1-on-1 photo print. Flowers equal femininity and even the type of flower you choose tells something about your classic, modern or minimal dress style.

You commonly know this type from sweaters and joggers. Borrowed from the sports industry, but the immense boost of the athleisure trend has made this fabric multi-purpose. Knitted with loops that are applied on the back-end of the fabric (sometimes brushed for a fleece finish), creating a warmer, firmer and thicker type of jersey.

Ribbed Jersey

It will come as no surprise that this type of jersey features either a fine or more chunky rib texture. But are you familiar with the extraordinary characteristics of rib jersey? It’s strong, shape-retaining and offers even more stretch than you’re used to from regular jersey. This makes it the ideal choice for fitted designs. Rib jersey immaculately follows the body’s contours, while the rib texture simultaneously hides some areas you might be less fond of. A slim-fit piece with a flattering effect? Rib jersey comes to the rescue!

Double Jersey

The name already reveals it: this type of jersey is double-knitted. And yes, it also leads to a fabric that’s twice as strong, firm and heavy. Perfect for pants: where single-jersey pants create a more pajama like feel, double-jersey pants feel as high-end as woven fabrics, but with added comfort. The slightly rigid fabric drape highlights the design’s silhouette, without accentuating humps and bumps. The most common types of double-jersey are (from fine to more chunky) interlock, Ponte and Milano jersey.

Tech Jersey

Tech jersey – also known as travel jersey – has been booming for quite some time, and as far as we’re concerned, has earned its stripes. This technically produced jersey is made with fine yarn to create a smooth texture with a major boost in the area of stretchability; perfect features for wrinkle-free garments. On top of that, this type of jersey can be processed seamlessly, creating a clean finish. Have a steady hand? Then travel jersey can even be cut to your preferred length, because this fabric won’t fray.

Jersey fabrics stretch naturally, but extra stretch is added to minimize stretching during wearing and to boost its shape-retaining feature? Factually, the amount of added stretch says little about the stretchability of the item, as this mostly depends on the chosen knitting technique. It does however, say a lot about its shape-retaining feature.
