3 things you didn’t know about baby cashmere

Seeing the word ‘baby’ on the care label of our new sweater, automatically evokes resistance. Because even though the sweater feels heavenly soft and looks ever so stylish, you immediately think: ‘’ooh, those poor little baby goats’’. That’s why we think that giving you some extra background information is the appropriate thing to do. In this blog we’ll tell you all about the baby cashmere that is used for Repeat’s Luxury line, so you can make a well-considered choice from now on. 1. The fact that this wool comes from a baby goat, says nothing about how animal-friendly the wool is

The most important question you should ask yourself is: how is the wool obtained? Repeat is firmly opposed to mass production and only uses premium Mongolian cashmere. Baby goat hair is obtained during a thorough combing process instead of shaving. This process takes place in spring, when the goat naturally loses its fur. Only 30 grams of hair per goat is obtained on a yearly basis. This has everything to do with the fact that only the finest hairs below the flanks and at the shoulders meet the quality requirements. But also, because this way the goat keeps its natural insulation layer and the molting process isn’t disturbed.

2. Baby cashmere surpasses ‘regular’ cashmere in terms of softness, thickness and weight
Only 30 grams of baby cashmere can be obtained per goat per year, compared to 100 grams per adult goat. In order to qualify for the ‘baby cashmere’ label, the goat must be in between the age of 6 and 12 months when combed. So, a goat only delivers this quality once in a lifetime with a maximum amount of only 30 grams. This makes the product very exclusive – which is noticeable both visually and in touch. The fibers of baby cashmere are much finer than that of regular cashmere and therefore feels more lightweight and comfortable to wear. The result is a garment with an extra refined surface, but with all the properties that make cashmere so popular.
3. Baby cashmere doesn’t need to be washed that often because it has self-cleaning properties

Cashmere is a natural product and is therefore almost completely self-cleaning. So, washing your garment after every wear isn’t necessary. Give your garment a good shake down to get rid of the dirt and let it air to let the fibers breathe – either outside or in your laundry room. In addition, it’s important to let your garment rest for a couple of days in between wearing. This should be enough retain your garment’s fresh feeling. In fact, washing is only necessary if there are stubborn stains that need to be removed.

A few care tips:
- Use a special cashmere detergent
- Turn the garment inside out during (hand)washing
- Do not wash at temperatures above 30 degrees and spin at low speed
- Allow your garment to dry flat on a towel to maintain its original shape
